6th Grade
The Child
Sixth graders are on the cusp of adolescence, and as such, they bring an increased capacity for critical thinking into the classroom. These students experience rapid physical growth and psychological change and often seek rules and causality to bring order to their new experience of the world. The student has an increased interest in social relationships. Once the sixth grader becomes more comfortable with these new developments, they are ready to look out into the world to discern their place, responsibility, and opportunities.
The Class
The sixth grade student has an increased interest in causality and equality. This is met with the study of Roman history and the development of order and justice during that period. The students are also formally introduced to the study of astronomy, physics, and geology. They continue to explore the wonder and beauty of the world through botany and geometry. At Berkeley Rose Waldorf School, we provide the students with new perspectives, particularly directing their attention out into the world.

Eurythmy, developed by Rudolf Steiner, is an art of human movement set to music, poetry, or speech. It is intended to be a complement to intellectual learning. By studying eurythmy, students learn dexterity of movement, grace, poise, balance, and concentration. They also develop a sense for sound and space and a feeling for social harmony.
