|||  Happy Year of the Dragon! Lunar New Year is upon us and our students’ week-long celebrations have been filled with joy and laughter.

Lunar New Year gift envelopes with riddles from grade 8

This year all students from Kindergarten through 8th grade created something special, to be placed in a red envelope, to be given to another student as a wish for the new year. The projects ranged from riddles, origami dragons to drawings and caligraphy. The children received these wishes with joy and laughter.

Our Kindergarten classes sang and celebrated with mandarins and a story about how the different animals came to each have one year to hold for their own.

Our third grade class held special festivities brought to the class by one of the parents who has family roots from Vietnam. They shared many traditions from Vietnam including stories, games and best of all, traditional foods which were made in the classroom – the favorite being Banh Tet or sticky rice cakes.

We are very grateful to all of our parents who contribute and share their traditions and customs with our children. These offerings bring richness to our lives and serve to connect all of us to our past and guide us into the future.
