Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. this week

||| Each class took the opportunity to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. in their own way over the past week. Here you will see a few glimpses: Lower Graders singing songs from the Civil Rights struggle and engaging in service work on campus, and Upper Graders listening to a talk by Sports and Games teacher Michael Simpson. Mr. Simpson’s talk was part of an ongoing speaker series in the Upper Grades in which students get to hear first hand about growing up in different cultures and eras. Mr. Simpson grew up in Richmond, CA (where he still lives!) in the 1950s and 60s in an African American family. Mr. Simpson shared personal stories of schooling, bussing, civil rights, travels to the South, how his parents reacted to the assassinations of JFK and MLK, Jr., and more.
